Coat of Arms of the region (big). Consists of the small arms and kartush which frames it. Kartush is a composition of in a shieldlike aggravated form. Its middle side parts are bent to the centre. In the bottom part of it crossed sabre and a hist mace are depicted. The edges of its middle parts from the both sides of the small arms end with laurel wreaths. Above them, from curls of volutes, flexible stalks with brushes of a guelder-rose and foliage rise upwards.

In the middle of the top part of kartush T.G.Shevchenko's graphic representation en face is placed inside of the octahedral shield. The image is coloured white in a purple background. Around the shield, together with the portrait, the oak branches with foliage and acorns are placed. Together they form a silhouette traditional for the "crowns" of all the types of kartush. The whole kartush, except for T.G.Shevchenko's image is monochrome, with the colours of metal: copper, bronze, silver.

The hist mace and the sabre symbolize great Cossack past of the Cherkasy region and the nation-building activity of Bogdan Hmelnytsky. Laurels is a symbol of glory. Volutes - the history of origination and development. A guelder-rose-- the most widespread vegetative symbol, the impersonation of the Ukrainian mentality. An image T.G.Shevchenko - the highest display of talent on the region's grounds, recognized all over the world; the prophet and the symbol of Ukraine, pride and glory of our land. An oak -- a symbol of force and indestructibility, and acorns - hopes for growth and progress.

The flag of Cherkasy region. A rectangular panel of dark blue colour which symbolizes heavenly height, dignity. In the centre of the cloth the bilateral image of the arms is placed. The edges of three sides of the cloth are framed with a yellow fringe, in the top part of which two cords accordingly dark blue and yellow with a bit of golden colour are fixed. The parity of width of the cloth to its length is 2:3.
